Forum photographer receives international attention for jaw-dropping rodeo photo

David Samson

The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead photographer Dave Samson’s photo taken for the Saturday, March 31, edition of the paper received international accolades when it was chosen as the Toronto Star’s photo of the day for Sunday, April 1.

The Toronto Star’s photo desk chooses a photo from around the world each day to feature as the “Editor’s Choice – Picture of the Day” on a blog that can be found here: http://thestar.blogs.com/photodesk/. Viewers can see Samson’s photo by scrolling down to the April 1 blog post.

Assigned to shoot a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo that was taking place inside the Fargodome on Friday, March 30, Samson decided to try something different, shooting from the catwalk high in the ceiling of the domed arena, instead of from the ground.

“He took a chance, and it really paid off,” Forum Editor Matthew Von Pinnon wrote in an email to staff recognizing the photo’s accolades. “He also snapped some other eye-catching photos from the event, and from that vantage point. Congratulations, Dave! We know you are one of the best. Now others outside our area know that, too.”
