MITCHELL, S.D. – Brooke Cersosimo has been promoted to sports editor of The Daily Republic, effective immediately.
She succeeds Luke Hagen, who was recently promoted from sports editor to assistant news editor.
Cersosimo, 23, a Mitchell native, joined The Daily Republic’s staff last year as a sports reporter. She has a bachelor’s degree in communication with a journalism emphasis from Southern Utah University, where she competed as an NCAA Division I gymnast.
“I’m excited to continue to learn and improve with this position,” she said. “I’ve enjoyed working with people in the community and look forward to building new relationships.”
During her time so far at The Daily Republic, Cersosimo has won two awards for her work: a first place in the Best Sports Reporting category of the South Dakota Newspaper Association Better Newspapers Contest; and a second place for Best Sports Feature in the Great Plains Newspaper Contest, which includes 14 daily newspapers in North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska.
Her promotion was announced Monday by Daily Republic Editor Seth Tupper.
“We’ve been pleased by the work ethic, attitude and commitment to improvement that Brooke has shown during her time with us,” Tupper said, “and we look forward to her continued professional growth in this new role.”
As sports editor, Cersosimo will manage a staff of two full-time sports reporters and up to two part-time sports employees.
